IIUM Research Initiative Grant Scheme (RIGS) 2017 APPLICATION –DEADLINE (30TH OCTOBER 2017 / MONDAY)

Dear Prof./ Assoc. Prof. / Dr. / Sir / Mdm,


We wish to announce that the IIUM Research Initiative Grant Scheme (RIGS) 2017 will be openedfrom16TH OCTOBER 2017 / monDAY until 30TH OCTOBER 2017 / MONDAY.


Interested researchers are kindly invited to apply for this grant via the Research Management System Version 2 (RMSV2) accessible at rmsv2.iium.edu.my (no hard copies will be accepted).  Please login using your valid HURIS username and password.  Attached are the manual for Online Research Grant Application Module and IIUM Research Initiative Grant Scheme Guidelines and Procedures 2017 for your reference.




Areas of research for the IIUM Research Initiative Grant Scheme 2017 are:


a.         Pure and Applied Science

b.         Technology and Engineering

c.         Clinical and Health Sciences

d.         Social Sciences and Humanities

e.         Arts and Applied Arts

f.          Natural Sciences and National Heritage




Research projects shall be completed within 12 months from the approval date with up to 6 months extension (subject to a good progress report).




a.                   Only ONE application per staff.  A minimum of one (1) co-researcher is required.

b.                  Open to anyone who is currently NOT a Principal Investigator;

c.                   The applicant is not on study leave;

d.                  The budget is appropriate and meets the objectives of the grant.

e.                   Priority will be given to those who have :

i)                    served the University less than 5 years

ii)                  applied for national grants at least twice in the past 3 years




The budget is as follows :


Non- Science and Technology = Minimum is RM 5,000.00.

Science and Technology = Minimum is RM 20,000.00


* All publication and related costs are to be borne by this grant.

*Conferences are not supported by this grant unless the outputs have been produced and there is surplus money to support that conference.



a.                   Researchers are required to generate (complete with evidence), within the expected 12-month research duration, 0.003 MyRA mark.   The calculation of mark is based on the following table :

For example  :

2 indexed journals x 0.0015 = 0.003 mark; OR

3 non-indexed journals x 0.0010 = 0.003 mark; OR

1 research book x 0.0040 = 0.0040 mark; OR

5 chapters in research book x 0.0007 = 0.0035 mark;


OR any combination of the above to achieve the 0.003 MyRA mark.


b.         Researchers should acknowledge all fellow research collaborators (minimum 1 active academic) and all sources of funding openly in any publication or publicity.
